Folk Dance Taster Session

LARGE HALL

Large Hall, St. Mark’s Church, Purley

Watendone FDC was formed in 1962 and has been dancing at St Mark’s Church Hall since 1986 (that is 36 years). English Country Dancing is social dancing as opposed to performance or display dancing. It mostly involves dancing in Sets of 3, 4, 5 couples or longways for as many as will.

Most people will be familiar with the simple dances they may have enjoyed at Barn Dances.
There are VERY many dances, danced to a great variety of traditional and classical music. The earliest dances in our repertoire were published by John Playford in 1651 and modern delightful dances are still being written today.

Folk Dance Clubs give us an opportunity to learn and enjoy these dances which are part of our English heritage in good company and benefit from mental and physical exercise.
We have a Live Band once a month and all dances are walked through and Called.

Our dance club meets September to June. Tuesday afternoon 2.00 - 4.00pm with a short break for Tea.
We would love you to join us, it is such good fun and you would be most welcome.
Why not give us a try?
